Heritage Open Weekend, St Matthew’s Church, Eye

Whether you have lived in Eye for a few days, are just visiting, or have been here all your life, you are invited to Heritage Open Weekend in St Matthew’s Church, Eye. Friday 8th September 2017 at 7.30pm Talk about Photographs of old Eye, by David Fovargue. £3 entry, including refreshments. Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th September 2017 Church open and displays on show. Free. Open 10am – 4pm Saturday, 11am – 3.30pm Sunday. Includes stories of World War I soldiers, industry and commerce in Eye, school life, Eye church’s history and a timeline you can add to. Refreshments on sale. Sunday 10th September 2017 at 3.30pm Service of prayers and dedication of timeline. All welcome. Details and updates will be on our FaceBook event.

Thorney Abbey Flower Festival is on this weekend!

Well, our wonderful Thorney Abbey Flower Festival has got off to a great start, the weather is looking like it’s going to be sunny and dry over the the weekend. Sycamore Tree Removal at Thorney Abbey

For some time Thorney Abbey has been looking at the possible removal of the large Sycamore Tree in the front corner of the Abbey Grounds. All the permissions were granted and the work booked in – and quite a job it was, as you can see from the photos it was a lot of effort. If you look at the base you can see that the tree was rotten in the core of the trunk. There was also a Victorian nail in the tree which the Chainsaw struck – ribena bottle for scale! It certainly makes the view of the Abbey look a bit different!
