Looking to the future
Currently, Thorney Abbey functions well as a place of Christian worship, and has done so for more than 500 years.
However if the Abbey is to survive, it needs to adapt to the needs of people in the 21st century. With this in mind, plans have been drawn up to add new facilities, in the form of a working servery, easy access toilets and a balcony. It is also hoped that the choir stalls can be made mobile, thus giving the option to open up the chancel area for concerts and community events.
It is hoped that with the addition of these new facilities the Abbey will continue to serve not just the Christian community in Thorney, but also the much wider needs of the village at large.
As plans progress we will be putting more details here on our website.
